Procedure Text ( A Recipe and A Manual)
- A procedure text is a piece of text that gives us instructions for doing something. The purpose of a procedure text is to explain how something can be done.
- A procedure text usually consists of three parts:
a. The Goal/Aim, stating what will be made or done.
b. List of Ingredients or Materials, stating the materials needed for doing the procedure. It
consist of:
1) amount of number of things/materials, for example 250 gr margarine, 2 eggs, etc;
2) kind of things/materials, for example brown sugar, cake flour;
3) action applied to the things/materials, for example grated cheese.
c. A Sequence of Steps of Method, stating the order they need to be done. It consists of the
instructions that use the imperative form.
3. A recipe and a manual are the examples of procedures.
4. A recipe is a list of instruction to make some dish (food and drink)
5. A manual is a list of instructions for operating a machine or a tool.
6. Short, simple, and clear instructions are necessary.
7. Simple present tense, imperatives (action verbs), preposition of time, adverbs and conjunctions
are used in a procedure text.
8. Action verbs sometimes are used in a procedure text, for example shake, bake, pour, fill, cut,
rub, remove, place, hold, ets.
9. Adverbs sometimes used with verbs in a procedure, for example quickly, gently, slowly,
firmly, carefully, lightly, etc.
10. There are often "sequencing" words to show the steps in the process, for example: firstly,
